A pediatric dentist was arrested after a road-rage shooting that involved herself, her husband and another couple in a Newnan parking lot, authorities said.

Lona Demetria Bibbs, 44, turned herself in Monday after the Nov. 25 incident left her husband shot, Coweta County sheriff’s Investigator Jacob Herbert confirmed to AJC.com.

Bibbs was allegedly driving her Cadillac Escalade aggressively on I-85, including brake-checking a red passenger car, Herbert said.

A husband and wife, traveling in a Dodge Avenger, and Bibbs left the interstate at Exit 47, Herbert said. While at the red light at the intersection of Ga. 34 and Newnan Crossing Boulevard, Bibbs and the passenger in the Dodge allegedly exchanged words.

Bibbs’ attorney, Rudjard Hayes, told Channel 2 Action News that “the white couple (called) my client, Dr. Bibbs, a racial slur and she responded.”

The Dodge turned left into a shopping center on Bullsboro Drive, while the red passenger car also got off on Exit 47 and continued driving toward Newnan, Herbert said.

Bibbs turned right and drove two miles to her business, My Kidz Dentist, at 1741 Newnan Crossing Boulevard, which is where she called her husband, Keith Walker, and told him to meet her, Herbert said. Hayes disputed that, telling Channel 2 that Walker was already at the business working on some repairs.

The two drove back to the shopping center parking lot, where they allegedly blocked the other couple’s Dodge with Walker’s Ford F-250 and Bibbs’ Cadillac, Herbert said. Hayes, however, said his clients left the dentist’s office to go shopping — not to confront the other couple.

“They were in no way, shape or form looking for this couple which is what the reports are saying,” the attorney told the news station.

Witnesses told authorities Walker took out a pistol when getting out of his vehicle, and an argument between the two women broke out into a fight. Walker drew his gun while trying to break it up, Herbert said.

Hayes told Channel 2 Walker did not take out his pistol or escalate the situation.

The other husband then drew his own gun and fired twice, hitting Walker in his arm and chest, Herbert said. An off-duty Fayette County deputy then broke up the fight between the women and took possession of the husband’s gun.

Bibbs and Walker were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, and Walker has since been released, Herbert said. He continues to recover from his injuries at their home in Fayette County.

Bibbs is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic acts and threats, battery and simple assault, Herbert said. She was released Monday on a $25,000 bond.

“Had Dr. Bibbs gone her separate way and dropped the incident, none of this would have occurred,” Herbert told Channel 2.

Walker is expected to turn himself in on a charge of aggravated assault once he’s recovered, Herbert said.

No charges have been filed against the other couple.

Herbert said investigators still want to speak to the driver of the red car that allegedly encountered Bibbs on the interstate.
