A 28-year-old Papa John’s pizza delivery man was shot and killed Tuesday night while making a delivery to an apartment complex in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County police said Wednesday.

Police called to the 1400 block of Herrington Road just before midnight arrived to find Shane Varnadore of Buford dead from an apparent gunshot wound, Gwinnett police Cpl. Deon Washington said.

Police believe the motive was robbery. Detectives have looked into several leads in the investigation and asked for witnesses in the complex to come forward.

In a statement, Papa John’s spokesman Peter Collins said: “We are extremely saddened to hear of the tragic loss of our team member and friend. Our thoughts go out to his family members, teammates and friends during this difficult time. We are working in full cooperation with local authorities in their efforts to apprehend those involved in this senseless act.”
