A former Morris Brown College dormitory caught fire late Tuesday — the third fire in one of the school’s former dorms in less than a year.

Upon arrival, about 40 firefighters found “heavy fire” on the second floor of the vacant 10-story Morris Brown Towers, Atlanta Fire Rescue Sgt. Cortez Stafford told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A trash fire in one of the rooms spread to a hallway, he said. One person was rescued from the building, but he was not injured.

The blaze was the second fire this year at property once owned by the historically black college and the third one in less than a year.

In February, firefighters found a fire on the second floor of the John A. Middleton Complex on Mitchell Street. Vagrants were found inside, but no one was injured.

In August 2015, former honors dormitory Gaines Hall caught fire. The cause was not determined.

Morris Brown sought bankruptcy protection in August 2012 and emerged from bankruptcy last year. As part of the proceedings, Morris Brown agreed to sell 26 acres of property and buildings to Invest Atlanta and Friendship Baptist Church for $14.7 million. The college retained ownership of the school's administration building, Griffin Hightower Classroom building and Fountain Hall.
