The two men involved in a high-speed chase with a runaway juvenile are facing numerous charges, including aggravated assault, cruelty to children and obstruction, the Coweta County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

The incident began Saturday evening when police learned a runaway girl from Carroll County was traveling along Ga. 16. And it ended in an officer-involved shooting Saturday night at a church on Bob Smith Road, according to police.

Matthew Rogers, Steven Matthew Horsley and the unidentified girl allegedly ditched their vehicle and tried to run from officers. But Horsley was caught and the girl was shocked with a Taser, the sheriff’s office said. Rogers was shot by officers and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Rogers, who remained in the hospital Tuesday, has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, statutory rape, child molestation, first-degree cruelty to children, obstruction, fleeing and attempting to elude, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday.

Horsley, 29, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, first-degree cruelty to children and obstruction. He was being held without bond late Tuesday at the Coweta jail, records showed.

Horsley was in state prison from Aug. 31, 2011, until Feb. 27, 2014, following a conviction for possession of weapons and drugs by a prisoner and theft by taking, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

The GBI is investigating the shooting.
