A McDonough man was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after beating his wife to death last year, authorities said.

Davis Clay Chalfant, 29, pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery in the death of 25-year-old Amber Chalfant, the Henry County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

On Sept. 5, 2018, he called 911 to report his wife’s injuries, but he called 13 hours after he had badly beaten her, the release said. He inflicted blunt force trauma to her torso and assaulted her in their home on Creekside Way.

When authorities arrived, she was already dead, the release said.

“This was a heinous case of domestic violence,” District Attorney Darius Pattillo said in the release. “This woman suffered tremendous abuse from the man she loved and trusted.”

Investigators said they found a history of domestic violence between the couple. Details on their findings were not included in the release.
