A Marietta man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for using a fake Craigslist ad to rob three Gwinnett County men at gunpoint.
Michael Dayquan Armstead, 21, was convicted Friday of armed robbery and aggravated assault in the May 16, 2014 incident.
The three victims, who had money, cell phones and keys stolen, were set up through a Craigslist ad for power tools, the Cobb district attorney’s office said.
Three men and a woman robbed the victims at gunpoint in a parking lot at the Country Hearth Inn and Suites at Windy Hill Road and Leland Drive.
The three co-defendants previously pleaded guilty in the case, authorities said.
“This case was a cautionary tale for all people who buy and sell through Craigslist, because this robbery occurred with the sun still out and in a public place,” Assistant District Attorney Paul Camarillo said. “I urge the people in our communities to utilize programs set up through their local police departments to conduct these transactions.”
