A SWAT standoff in northwest Atlanta ended peacefully Wednesday morning after officers negotiated the surrender of a gunman.

Jeremy McClure, 26, barricaded himself inside his home on Sandy Creek Drive after police said he shot a friend who came to visit him. The friend, who lives a few houses away, said McClure started shooting at him when he pulled up about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to an Atlanta police spokesman.

When responding officers went looking for McClure, he reportedly ran into his house and refused to come out.

“Atlanta SWAT was called, and officers were eventually able to convince Mr. McClure to surrender,” spokesman Officer Steve Avery said in a statement.

McClure was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for an evaluation and later released. He is being held Wednesday at the Fulton County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, obstruction and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

His friend was also taken to Grady and was stable Wednesday, according to police.
