A man wanted by Clayton County deputies for nearly a year is accused of killing an Alabama teenager Sunday, according to multiple media reports.
Kardarius Deitra Fountain, 23, was arrested Monday and faces a capital murder charge in the death of 18-year-old James Edward Richardson III, AL.com reported. The teen was shot about 7:45 p.m. in a Montgomery neighborhood and died at a hospital about three hours later.
Fountain allegedly fired into a vehicle, hitting Richardson, the newspaper reported. Investigators said the two knew each other.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office named Fountain as the second-most wanted man in the county after a September 2018 incident.
Fountain got into a car wreck, tried to convince the two people in the other car to settle without calling authorities and then tried to leave the scene, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
When confronted by the people in the other car, Fountain allegedly shot at both of them. Neither was hit.
Fountain was wanted on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, second-degree criminal damage to property, hit-and-run and a firearm charge in connection with that incident, authorities said.
He has served two stints in Georgia prisons since 2013, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records. He was found guilty of first-degree burglary and robbery by intimidation in Clayton County, and while on probation, he took a handgun onto the campus of Patrick Henry High School in 2014, according to media reports at the time.
The gun was reportedly stolen from the Henry County Board of Commissioners, and he ran away from deputies when confronted at the school.
For that incident, he was convicted of carrying a weapon in a school zone, obstruction and first-degree burglary, GDC records show. He was most recently released from prison in September 2017, GDC records show.
