Alpharetta police are investigating the shooting early Tuesday of a man outside a condominium.

It happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Planter’s Ridge Lane, in the Planter’s Ridge condo complex, according to Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon.

“We had numerous residents of Planter’s Ridge contact 911 stating they heard multiple gunshots in their community,” Gordon told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We discovered a black male victim in front of a residence, in the parking lot, that had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.”

He said the victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to North Fulton Hospital in stable condition.

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting.

“It’s unknown at this time if the victim and the shooter knew each other,” Gordon said. “Detectives are looking at all possibilities, everything from a random shooting to some type of relationship between the victim and shooter.”

Gordon said just before daybreak that while the condos are across Cumming Street from Manning Oaks Elementary School, authorities had “no concerns whatsoever” about the safety of students who would soon begin arriving for class.

“The area is secure,” he said.

Some homeowners in the complex complained to the AJC that the neighborhood has changed in recent years, with most of the privately owned condos being turned into rental units.

“It was a great community, people were friends,” Sandy Hampton said.

“We had that old-fashioned, neighborly feeling to it,” she said. “Now, I don’t even know who lives here. Most of the time, we don’t know who’s living in any of the units.”

“We would love to get out of here, but we can’t sell our house,” Hampton said.
