“Three guys pulled up in a car next to me,” Hughes said.

The men told Hughes they were lost and would like to borrow his phone to make a call. Hughes said as he approached their car, a man in the backseat grabbed his phone.

The driver began to pull off, and the owner of the phone grabbed the vehicle with both hands to hang onto it, according to the report.

Hughes said he was punched and kicked in the face multiple times by another man in the backseat.  "He started hitting me in the face," Hughes said.

The 28-year-old victim said he didn't let go of the car until he heard someone say, "Grab the gun and kill him."

Hughes suffered several injuries, including road rash on his right shoulder, right elbow and right knee, and multiple bumps on his face, police said.

Police noted the victim was bleeding from his mouth and eyes when they arrived at the scene.

Hughes was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment, according to the report.

“I work hard for my things and it’s just a shame people are out here taking people’s stuff for no reason,” Hughes said.
