A Smyrna man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a salon worker who was found dead just days after his birthday in 2016.
On May 30, 2016, Howard Sewell, 35, was lured to an apartment in Marietta to be robbed, investigators said. He was shot dead, and his body was dumped behind a Paulding County auto body shop. Investigators found his decomposing body days later. His identity was confirmed through dental records and DNA testing.
Omar Savior, 23, and Thadeshia Clark, 22, were arrested in connection with the murder.
“This was a particularly senseless and callous crime perpetrated out of greed,” said Jesse Evans, Cobb Chief Assistant District Attorney.
Savior has remained in custody since his arrest in 2016. Tuesday, as jury selection was underway for the trial, he pleaded guilty to malice murder and felony murder in Sewell’s death.
Cobb Superior Court Judge Anna Harris then sentenced Savior to serve life in prison. Last April, Clark pleaded guilty to the same charges and was also sentence to serve life in prison.
Charges remain pending against three others who participated in concealing Sewell’s death.
