A man has died after someone he knew chased him through an Athens apartment complex and shot him, police said.

Clinton Patterson died Sunday of injuries sustained during what police believe to be a robbery, Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said Tuesday.

The shooting happened Dec. 21 at North Grove Apartments in the 100 block of Old Hull Road.

The gunman got away, but he was described by police as about 5-foot-8 and in his mid-20s.

“We do believe the motive to be robbery, and it is not a stranger-to-stranger crime,” Rodriguez said.

Police hope to release video surveillance soon.
