A Cherokee County boy told police he was approached by a stranger after getting off his school bus this week, and the man allegedly then tried to abduct him, police said Friday night.

Deputies were called Wednesday afternoon to a home on Flint Drive, near Woodstock, where the boy described the suspicious person, Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said.

"A 12-year-old child advised deputies when he got off his school bus, a white male driving a black Dodge pickup approached him and told the child that his father was in the hospital, and instructed the child to get in the vehicle so he could take him to his father," Baker said in an emailed statement. "The child told the man he was going to talk to his mother first and then ran to his residence."

None of the residents remembered seeing the black Dodge pickup described by the boy, Baker said..But Friday, investigators were able to obtain images from the school bus's interior camera, and a Dodge pickup can be seen parked near the bus stop Wednesday.

Deputies continued to canvass the area Friday in search of the truck, which reportedly had damage to the rear driver side door.

The suspect was described as middle-aged with gray hair and "scruffy" facial hair, Baker said.

Anyone with any information about the suspect, the vehicle or this incident is urged to call 911.
