Police ID young woman found dead on walking trail near Stone Mountain
A young woman’s body was found on a walking trail near a DeKalb County neighborhood park Wednesday afternoon, police said.
DeKalb police’s homicide unit is investigating and foul play is suspected, spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer told AJC.com. They believe the victim was shot on the trail, not far from the Mainstreet playground outside of Stone Mountain, Channel 2 Action News reported.
She was identified Thursday as 24-year-old Shantrelle Monroe.

Investigators have not made any arrests in the case or determined a possible motive, Spencer said.
Monroe’s body was found by hikers in the 900 block of Lake Drive Court around 3:45 p.m., Spencer said.
“It’s kind of in an isolated area, so we’re going to have search for witnesses to this incident,” Spencer told Channel 2.

“We’re just telling the residents if they’ve heard or seen anything to please call the DeKalb County Police Department,” Spencer said. “And to just be aware of their surroundings.”
