Two people have been arrested on charges of hindering the apprehension of a criminal after a wanted northwest Georgia man was killed by police Sunday.
Victoria Shaffer, 24, and Guy Haney, 41, are both facing charges in the officer-involved shooting that killed 28-year-old fugitive Jeffery Tyler Aycock, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Aycock, who was believed to have ties to the Ghost Face Gangsters, was shot Sunday by SWAT officers with Floyd County police after they caught up with him outside Rome, the GBI confirmed.
Aycock was tracked to an abandoned cabin off Chulio Road. SWAT officers began clearing the wooded area about 2 p.m. and then made contact with Aycock, according to a news release.
After Aycock grabbed a gun from behind his back, the GBI said an officer told him to drop it. When he refused, the officer fired, striking Aycock. The suspect died at the scene.
No officers were reported injured. An autopsy will be performed by the GBI’s Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities had been looking for Aycock since Tuesday, when he was allegedly involved in a shootout with officers trying to serve him an arrest warrant. He was previously wanted on charges of probation violation and contempt of court.
Floyd County police attempted to capture the man at his father’s home on Sam Harris Road, police spokesman Sgt. Chris Fincher told AJC.com. The incident resulted in the arrest of Aycock’s father, 52-year-old Jeffrey Todd Aycock, but the younger Aycock got away.

The cabin on Chulio Road is about 10 miles south of his father’s home.
Shaffer is being held in the Floyd County jail without bond, while Haney has since been released. Police have not said why they believe the two helped Aycock hide from authorities.
The incident was the GBI’s 62nd officer-involved shooting investigation opened in 2019, according to spokeswoman Nelly Miles.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also tracks officer-involved shootings that don't involve the GBI, and those numbers sometimes differ from the GBI's tally.
