Authorities arrested an Indianapolis police officer early Saturday after investigators said he shot a fellow officer and fled to Cincinnati, according to multiple reports.

A detective with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was shot Friday night at a home in south Indianapolis, WTHR reported. The detective was sent to the home regarding a domestic violence complaint involving an 18-year veteran of IMPD and his estranged wife.

The detective was speaking with the off-duty officer's wife when the officer opened fire and struck the detective, according to WTHR.

The detective was in plain clothes at the time of the attack and suffered an injury to his arm, IMPD Maj. Richard Riddle told WISH. He returned fire but missed, and the suspect officer fled the scene.

The injured detective was transported to a local hospital, where he was last listed in good condition, according to WISH.

Investigators tracked the suspect officer to Cincinnati, where he was taken into custody early Saturday, WXIN reported.

According to the television station, the suspect was suspended by the police department without pay pending termination and had been assigned to the city's Southwest District.

Additional information on the victim and the suspect was not immediately available.
