A Henry County grand jury has indicted the owner of an assisted living home in McDonough for allegedly stealing $60,000 from Georgia’s Medicaid program, the state Attorney General’s Office said.
Madeline Laruy, owner of Walnut Creek Manor, was charged on Thursday with one felony count of medicaid fraud and one felony count of giving false statements.
Authorities allege that between May 1, 2009 and April 23, Laruy was a service provider in the state’s Medicaid’s Alternative Living Services program. One requirement of the program is that patients receive a visit at least once a month from a registered nurse licensed to practice in Georgia.
Although Laruy is neither a registered nurse nor licensed in Georgia, she submitted fraudulent claims to Georgia Medicaid under the false pretense that she had fulfilled the registered nurse visit requirement needed to receive reimbursement.
As a result, Laruy received payments of $61,346 to which she was not entitled, authorities said. Laruy also is accused of providing a fraudulent registered nurse license card to auditors from the Georgia Department of Community Health.
Assistant Attorney General Stephen Cusick presented the case to the Henry County Grand Jury. Nurse investigator Donna Wills and investigator Matthew Rouse of the Georgia Medicaid fraud control unit investigated the case.
