A woman charged in fatal wrecks in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties has now pleaded guilty in both cases — and will spend the next 20 years in prison.
Gwinnett County Assistant District Attorney Matt Acuff said Sabrina Patrice Townes entered a guilty plea Monday to charges of vehicular homicide and false statements, which were brought against her after a May 2014 crash on Ga. 316 that involved seven vehicles and killed 29-year-old Pamela Leake. A judge sentenced Townes to serve 30 years, with the first 20 in confinement.
The sentence was handed down a week after Townes pleaded guilty in DeKalb County to causing a 2012 crash that killed 47-year-old Lymeng Lim. DeKalb authorities issued warrants for Townes' arrest following that wreck on Lawrenceville Highway, but she was not apprehended until she triggered the deadly crash in Gwinnett two years later.
In both cases, Townes told authorities that a man named “Quan” had been behind the wheel, Acuff said.
Townes was sentenced to serve 15 years in the DeKalb case, but that time will run concurrent with the longer Gwinnett sentence, Acuff said.
The prosecutor said Townes will likely get credit for time served since her arrest.
