A suspected hit-and-run driver who was chased by a Gwinnett County woman moments before her fatal wreck has been arrested, police said.

Munsha Shekhani, 23, died late last month after turning in front of a box truck while chasing Jose Anjel Medina down Steve Reynolds Boulevard, Gwinnett police said.

Shekhani was stopped near I-85 when she was rear-ended by Medina’s white pickup truck, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Wilbert Rundles said previously.

The pickup sped off and Shekhani was following it when the box truck hit her on Venture Drive, authorities said. She later died of her injuries.

Authorities said Medina continued driving and never returned to the scene or called police.

The 24-year-old Lawrenceville man was arrested Monday after police followed up on a tip that led them to identify Medina as the suspect in the fender bender that preceded Shekhani’s fatal collision.

He is charged with hit-and-run, following too closely and violating a driving permit, authorities said. Medina, however, is not charged in connection with Shekhani’s death, jail records show.

Medina was released Monday after posting a $617 bond.
