Gwinnett woman killed while chasing hit-and-run driver, police say

A 23-year-old Lawrenceville woman was killed while chasing a truck that rear-ended her car and left the scene, police said.

A Gwinnett County woman was killed Tuesday while chasing a pickup truck that rear-ended her and left the scene, authorities said.

Munsha Shekhani, 23, of Lawrenceville, was stopped on Steve Reynolds Boulevard near I-85 when she was rear-ended by a white, older model SUV or pickup truck, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Wilbert Rundles said Thursday in a news release.

The truck then sped away from the scene and Shekhani chased it, police said. The truck turned left onto Venture Drive, narrowly avoiding another car. Shekhani then tried to make the turn, but pulled in front of a box truck and was hit, Rundles said.

She was badly injured in the wreck and later died.

The fleeing truck continued driving and never returned to the scene or called police, authorities said.

Now, police are looking to identify the driver of that vehicle. A cash reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run and subsequent chase is asked to contact Gwinnett detectives at 678-442-5653. Tipsters wishing to submit information anonymously are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or visit the website.
