Gwinnett County police have identified a man found shot multiple times outside a Norcross-area apartment complex early Sunday.

Monday morning, Cpl. Deon Washington announced the man, who was discovered outside the Sienna Heights Apartments on Graves Road, had been identified as 30-year-old Tucker resident Marlon Hernandez. Hernandez died after being taken to Gwinnett Medical Center.

Now police have to figure who killed him, and why.

“Detectives are working to determine a motive and develop suspects for this homicide,” Washington said in an emailed statement. “A canvass will be conducted at the apartment complex to determine if someone may have seen or heard something that could be relevant to the investigation.”

At least two potential witnesses have already provided statements to police, according to an incident report obtained Monday.

One woman called 911 after being “awoken by three loud bangs,” the report said. She saw the victim lying in the parking lot but “did not see anyone near the victim or running away.”

Another witness told police he saw “two or three” males on a walking path between two buildings, then heard “a lot of commotion” and spotted at least one man running back down the path.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Gwinnett homicide detectives at 770-513-5300. Tipsters can also remain anonymous — and be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 — by contacting Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS or crimestoppersatlanta.org.
