Police are searching for a man caught on two DeKalb County doorbell cameras trying to break into homes while armed with a handgun.

The shirtless man can be seen in surveillance footage opening the screen door of a home along Porter Road early Monday. He’s shirtless in the video and holding a black gun.

The incident has some homeowners on edge, including  Steve Martineau, who told Channel 2 Action News he saw the gun-toting man after receiving a notification on his Nest app.

Martineau said he was shocked to see a man with a gun in his typically quiet neighborhood.

“It’s pretty scary,” he said.

A sign next to Martineau’s camera reads, “Smile, you're on camera,” but that didn’t seem to faze the man, who moved on after a few moments before allegedly breaking into a neighbor’s car and truck.

A second video recorded about two hours later appears to show the same armed man at another home in Avondale Estates.

It’s unclear whether the attempted break-ins were random, but anyone who recognizes the man or knows his whereabouts is asked to call DeKalb police.
