A former northwest Georgia police officer pleaded guilty Thursday to six counts of theft and six counts of violation of office by a public official, the GBI said in a news release.

Scott Reneau was investigated by the GBI in March 2016 for missing forfeiture money and weapons from the Tunnel Hill Police Department in Whitfield County, the release said.

Reneau was sentenced to 15 years, with five years to be served in confinement, the release said. He was also ordered to pay $37,108 in restitution.
