The mother of a 1-year-old Georgia boy was arrested Tuesday after police said she neglected to act while the baby was struck and killed by his father.

Jaimie Howard, 20, told authorities that her son was found unresponsive early Friday morning. After the baby was pronounced dead at a Macon hospital, there were no signs of a visible injury, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Later that day, an autopsy found that the boy had suffered a head injury, officials said.

“After further investigation into the incident it was discovered that the infant had been struck in the head by his father,” 21-year-old A’kym Henderson, the sheriff’s office said. Henderson was arrested Friday on a felony murder charge.

On Tuesday, Howard was arrested on a felony murder charge after an interview revealed she was present while Henderson struck the baby, the sheriff’s office said.

“Howard did not seek medical attention for the infant after the incident, until the infant became unresponsive,” the statement said.
