A Georgia man initially charged with raping a 13-year-old girl instead pleaded guilty to child molestation and will avoid jail time, the Macon Telegraph reported.
Tremayne Octavious Driskell Jr., 21, was sentenced to five years on probation as part of a plea deal, the paper reported.
Authorities said Driskell, then 19, was visiting a home in February 2016 when he went into the girl’s room and forced her to have sex with him. Police said Driskell told the girl “not to tell anyone because he didn’t want to go to jail.”
The girl didn’t tell anyone until a few months after the attack, the Telegraph reported.
Driskell had never been in trouble before and planned to go to the Army, his lawyer, Catherine Whitworth, said in court.
Driskell was sentenced as a first offender and must pay a $500 fine and $500 in attorney fees.
