A Georgia man was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison for slashing the throat of a woman who took him in when he was homeless.

Kenny Oliver, a friend of the victim’s son, was convicted of stabbing Sandy Archery multiple times while she was sleeping in her bed in 2016 in Douglas County, Assistant District Attorney David Emadi said.

The woman survived the attack.

Oliver, 21, was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault, four counts of invasion of privacy, aggravated battery and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. He was also sentenced to 25 years on probation.

The conviction stems from an attack Aug. 5, 2016, officials said. Archery, 46, had family members staying with her at the time and they woke up to the woman’s screams, Emadi said.

They later learned she had been stabbed.

“She covered her neck wounds with a comforter and ran to the yard of a neighbor for help,” Emadi said. “There was a trail of blood from the bedroom.”

When law enforcement officials arrived, there did not appear to be any forced entry into the home.

Instead, authorities found Oliver’s shirt stained with blood in woods near where he often went camping. They also found his cellphone in the victim’s room with a jagged steak knife on the nightstand, Emadi said.

A subsequent search of his phone yielded four videos of Archery bathing.

“Each video was taken outside the master bath window and filmed through the slats on the blinds,” Emadi said. “It is clear that the victim did not appear to know she was being recorded.”

During the investigation, several witnesses told authorities Oliver was obsessed with Archery and was upset she was seeing someone romantically.

Witnesses also said he threatened to burn down the house of the person Archery was seeing.

Evidence revealed Oliver had a history of threatening women he was attracted to, Emadi said.

The attack left Archery with more than 30 internal and external stitches on her throat and right index finger, Emadi said. She also lost feeling in her finger.
