A man shot by Woodstock police late Wednesday night has been released from the hospital and taken to the Cherokee County jail, according to the GBI.
Woodstock officers were sent to a home on Yorkshire Lane shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday after 911 dispatchers received a call about shots being fired, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said in an email.
“Upon arrival, officers made contact with a subject with a gun,” Miles said.
“Verbal commands to drop the weapon were given by the officer,” she said. “The subject did not comply, resulting in the shooting incident.”
Miles identified the suspect as Jeremy Simpson, 22, of Woodstock.
Simpson was treated for at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for a gunshot wound and later released. He is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.
The officers involved were not injured, according to Woodstock police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan. They have been placed on administrative leave, she said.
The incident remains under investigation by the GBI.
