Authorities arrested a Fort Stewart soldier accused of trafficking drugs, according to jail records.
Mario Figueroa remained in the Liberty County jail without bond Wednesday. He was arrested April 13.
Several other soldiers were taken into custody Tuesday after they were believed to have used, had or sold cocaine. Officials did not specify how many were taken into custody and did not release their names.
They were later released, according to The Associated Press. The news organization reported Figueroa was a private.
“We dedicate resources and work closely with our local law enforcement partners to identify and suppress illegal drug use in our ranks,” Maj. Gen. James Rainey, senior commander of Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, said in a news release.
Local and military law enforcement assisted with the arrest, which Rainey said “does not diminish (other soldiers’) hard work and sacrifices.”
More than 25,000 people serve on the U.S. Army base and Army airfield in southeast Georgia.
