A 22-year-old man was already wanted on an attempted murder charge in Florida before he crossed into Cobb County, police said.
Dylan Marquis Ledbetter of Florida may be connected to a string of recent crimes in Cobb and Cherokee counties, police said Wednesday.
The Ford Focus hatchback Ledbetter was driving Saturday night has been suspected by Cobb police as connected to the Oct. 7 shooting outside the Marietta Pappadeaux restaurant on Windy Hill Road, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
“This vehicle was also being sought in connection with other armed robberies in the metro Atlanta area,” Pierce said.
One of those robberies took place in Sandy Springs the Monday following the Pappadeaux homicide, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.
When police spotted the Ford on Saturday night, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop in the parking lot of a Shell gas station. But Ledbetter decided to accelerate toward the officers, Pierce said.
“After striking an officer with the car, in an attempt to defend themselves, officers fired multiple rounds at the driver,” Pierce said.
Ledbetter was treated at a nearby hospital for gunshot wounds to his arm and leg before being charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and booked into the Cobb jail.
Demarious Kevauh Greene, 21, of Florida, was also arrested Saturday after he ran from the car and tried to get into a nearby motel room. He was booked into the Cobb jail on a charge of obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
The third man in the car has not been identified by police, nor was a woman seen by witnesses being put into handcuffs outside the Shell on Saturday night.
Woodstock police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said Wednesday that Ledbetter has also been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection to a robbery outside the Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta on Oct. 12.
Duncan said Bianca Williams, 25, of Florida, and Greene were charged in connection to the outlet mall robbery. Williams faces a charge of armed robbery and Greene has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Ledbetter is also wanted in Broward County, Fla., on an attempted murder charge, Duncan said.
Police released the photo of Ledbetter but have said they are not releasing photos of Greene and Williams “due to the ongoing nature of the investigation,” Duncan said.
Charges have not been filed in the shooting death of Anthony Welch and shooting of Cynthia Welch, both 48, who were shot outside Pappadeaux.
