A minor league hockey player faces arson charges after authorities said he doused love letters from his girlfriend in gasoline and lit them on fire, causing a blaze that grew out of control.
Justin Agosta, 25, was arrested on Dec. 30 after firefighters responded to a fire at his apartment, the Naples Daily News reports. Agosta, who plays for the Florida Everblades hockey team, told authorities that he poured gasoline on the letters from his girlfriend after becoming upset with her.
Agosta told authorities that he “tried to put the fire out with water and a towel,” but the blaze got out of control and he called 911 after the fire sprinkler went off. He will appear in court on Feb. 1.
