A previously convicted felon was sentenced for his role in a carjacking and a two-county police chase that ended in a fiery crash, the Clayton County District Attorney Office said in a Facebook post Monday.

Johnathan Headspeth, 23, was found guilty of multiple armed robbery and carjacking charges in the Aug. 24, 2017 incident. His accomplice, Jonte Hudson, 25, pleaded guilty prior to trial and was sentenced to life plus 20 years.

Headspeth was sentenced to life plus 75 years with the possibility of parole.

According to officials, Headspeth and Hudson robbed two employees at Quest Diagnostics and stole the company car. Morrow police followed the car, which reached speeds between 80 and 90 mph.

The men were eventually captured after a fiery crash that ended in DeKalb County.

Both men were convicted felons at the time of the crime.

Headspeth was previously convicted of robbery and possession of a firearm in Clayton County and robbery in Gwinnett County, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was released from prison on the latter charge in May 2017 — just months before he committed the carjacking in Clayton County.

According to the GaDoC, Hudson previously served prison terms for burglary, attempted burglary and theft by taking charges in Clayton County. He is currently serving his sentence at Smith State Prison.
