During a seven-year period, a former executive assistant to two senior vice presidents of Delta Air Lines embezzled more than $281,000 from the company, federal authorities said.

According to Channel 2 Action News, Emily McElwaney is facing federal wire fraud charges after she allegedly used her Delta-issued American Express credit card from February 2007 to September 2014 to buy food, gas, American Express gift cards and other personal items.

McElwaney, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court, used another person’s credentials to log onto Delta’s online expense-approval system and approve the expenses as if they were legitimate business charges.

“Delta conducted a thorough investigation of this former employee’s conduct and turned the matter over to the justice system when our investigation concluded,” Delta told Channel 2.

The company did not say how it learned of McElwaney’s alleged activity.

McElwaney is expected in court for a plea hearing on Jan. 19.
