Police are looking for a driver who allegedly sideswiped a man on a scooter before crashing into a downtown Atlanta power pole Tuesday morning.

The driver ran away after the crash near the intersection of Auburn and Piedmont avenues, according to Atlanta police.

Authorities arrived around 1:15 a.m. and took the scooter rider to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of a leg injury. He was stable Tuesday morning, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said.

Witnesses said the man was trying to get on the scooter when a vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and hit him, then continued into a tree and finally into the power pole.

Investigators are still working to locate the driver of the vehicle, Daugherty said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Atlanta police. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
