A Dallas man has been charged with homicide by vehicle in connection with a collision Thursday in Cobb County that killed a Douglasville man, authorities said.

Reed Smith, 19, also has been charged with felony hit-and-run, Cobb authorities said Saturday in a media release. The collision on Hiram Acworth Highway (also known as State Route 92) killed Mckinley Lewis, 41, the release said. The accident happened about 3:15 a.m.

Investigators said that Smith’s vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Impala, was traveling south on Hiram Acworth Highway. Lewis’ vehicle, a 1998 GMC Sonoma, was traveling north. The Impala went into the northbound lanes, where the vehicles collided. Lewis was pronounced dead on the scene.

The collision remains under investigation.
