Troup County deputies are searching for a man they say shot someone at a LaGrange home Wednesday morning.

Authorities were called to a home at 3055 West Point Road shortly before 10 a.m. after receiving calls about a shooting, Troup County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Stewart Smith said.

Police said 25-year-old Michael Cornett showed up at a hospital emergency room with a gunshot wound to the leg. He identified his shooter as 53-year-old Craig Allen and said the incident occurred at Allen’s home.

Deputies surrounded the house believing Allen was holed up inside, Smith said, but that was not the case.

The Georgia State Patrol’s tactical team entered the home about 4 p.m. and discovered it was empty. Police now believe that Allen left in a vehicle before investigators arrived.

He is wanted on one count of aggravated assault but could face additional charges, Smith said. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
