Three people are in custody after a SWAT standoff at a south DeKalb County home ended peacefully Monday morning.

Joshua Jackson, 17, of Lithonia, Justin Wright, 30, of Stone Mountain, and Daniel Wright, 29, of Jonesboro, face first-degree burglary charges, according to DeKalb County police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer.

The standoff began with a report of a burglary about 1:30 a.m., police Maj. Jerry Lewis told AJC.com Monday. When officers arrived at the home on Creekford Drive in the Redan area, they found it occupied by the suspects, who were believed to be armed.

The family who lived there was away on vacation.

“Some alert neighbors heard glass breakage,” Lewis said from the scene. “They called the police. We responded quickly and were able to contain them and take them into custody.”

Police blocked off Creekford Drive at Phillips Road while the SWAT unit was on scene.

SWAT negotiators, a bomb squad and the department’s robot were called to the scene, and eventually three people came out with their hands raised. No shots were fired, Lewis said.

As a precaution, authorities evacuated several homes in the neighborhood during the hourslong standoff and blocked off Creekford Drive at Phillips Road to traffic. Police began clearing the scene about 7:30 a.m.

All three suspects were taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
