A Floyd County man has spent several days behind bars after allegedly ramming two sheriff’s patrol cars during a chase through Forsyth County.
Jeriam Dale Gravitt, 24, has been in jail since Friday night, when he was arrested on a host of charges after the high-speed pursuit, authorities said.
A deputy tried to stop Gravitt about 8 p.m. after witnessing his white car cross the center line as he headed north on Bethel Road, Deputy Nick Sotor, a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said.
Upon seeing the deputy’s car, Gravitt immediately sped up, according to the sheriff’s office. The pursuit continued north to Browns Bridge Road, where deputies tried several times to stop the man’s car.
At one point deputies tried to surround Gravitt and box him in, prompting him to ram their patrol cars, officials said. One of those vehicles, authorities said, was a K-9 unit with a dog inside.
Gravitt’s car was disabled by the impact of the collisions and he was arrested while trying to crawl out of his window, according to Sotor. At the time of the pursuit, the 24-year-old had a felony probation violation warrant and a superior court bench warrant in Forsyth County.
Gravitt was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, third-degree injury to a police animal, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and failure to maintain his lane, authorities said. He was also charged in connection with his outstanding warrants.
Gravitt remains held at the Forsyth County Jail without bond, authorities said.
