Bond was denied Thursday afternoon for a second person arrested in connection with the Dec. 26 shooting death of college student and Army reservist Xavier Arnold.
With friends and family by his side, 22-year-old Qutravius Palmer turned himself in Wednesday afternoon at the Atlanta Police Department’s headquarters, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Palmer is now being held on charges of felony murder and armed robbery in the DeKalb County jail. He made his first appearance in DeKalb County Magistrate Court on Thursday. The judge could not set bond because of the murder charge, Channel 2 said.
On Dec. 26, Arnold, his girlfriend and another friend were on a bike trail in the Kirkwood community when shots were fired during an attempted robbery, Atlanta police said. The trio had planned to take pictures of graffiti on the trail when they were approached by two males, according to police.
Police allege that Palmer and a 14-year-old boy shot Arnold in the head and his friend in the leg as Arnold’s girlfriend watched. Arnold and his friend were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, but Arnold, 21, did not survive his injuries.
The teen, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, was arrested Saturday in connection with Arnold’s death. He has been charged with one count of murder and one count of armed robbery, said Sgt. Gregory Lyon, an Atlanta police spokesman.
The teen waived his first court appearance Monday before a DeKalb County judge.
Arnold, known by his friends as “X,” graduated from Chamblee High School in 2010 and enrolled in the Savannah College of Art and Design and enlisted in the Army Reserves.
He had recently moved home from Savannah and planned to attend school at SCAD’s Atlanta campus.
A wake will be held for Arnold from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Donald Trimble Funeral Home, 1876 Second Ave., Decatur.
A funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 6400 Woodrow Road, Lithonia.
