The federal Drug Enforcement Administration recovered about four gallons of liquid methamphetamine Wednesday near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

DEA spokesman John Murphy said the Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team unloaded 15 1-liter bottles of liquid methamphetamine from an unclaimed bag in a van on I-85 near the airport.

Murphy said once methamphetamine is manufactured, it is often suspended in liquid until it is transported to an illicit lab, where it is then made into crystal meth. He said whether or not the liquid is flammable or dangerous depends on what solution was used to suspend the methamphetamine.

No further information was immediately available.
