Nearly two dozen people were arrested Thursday in Atlanta during an eight-month investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration into the alleged trafficking of methamphetamine.

The DEA said it took 20 people into custody and seized four kilograms of meth, several firearms and about $125,000 in cash.

Channel 2 Action News reported the arrests come after a series of raids in Clayton and Fulton counties Thursday morning.

Authorities said several guns were seized when 20 people were arrested in Atlanta for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine.

Officials told Channel 2 the arrests were part of an investigation into Sinaloa cartel operations in Atlanta. The Sinaloa cartel is notorious for ties to high-profile drug trafficker Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

Since August, investigators have arrested 40 people in connection to the cartel operations, Channel 2 reported. Authorities said they’ve seized more than 114 kilograms of meth, 25 gallons of liquid meth, dozens of guns, nearly $250,000 in cash and 12,000 fentanyl pills.
