Covington man charged in pursuit, chase that injured state trooper
The Georgia State Patrol on Friday identified a motorcyclist accused of injuring a trooper after a pursuit and crash on the Downtown Connector.
Lindsay Simon of Covington was charged with fleeing, possession of marijuana, reckless driving, speeding, improper tag display and following too closely in the Thursday morning wreck, the GSP said. Simon did not have a motorcycle license.
In a statement released Thursday, the GSP said Simon’s motorcycle struck the back of an SUV on the northbound Connector, just past Memorial Drive. The injured trooper’s name has not been released.
“The [SUV] jerked … into the path of a patrol car,” the GSP said Thursday.
Witnesses saw the pursuit and tried to move out the way, according to Channel 2 Action News.
“As we were coming out of the tunnel, we saw [police] lights,” witness Michael Crawford told the news station. “As we merged over to the right, that’s when the motorcyclist smacked full speed into the car.”
The injured trooper is OK.
