A couple charged with murder in the death of a 24-day-old infant was indicted last week, according to Cherokee County court records.
Nicholas Campbell, 27, of Woodstock, was indicted Nov. 14 by a grand jury on 21 counts, including malice and felony murder, possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of an officer, first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
Murder charges were added after an autopsy report showed that Ciara Campbell’s manner of death was homicide and the cause of death was craniocerebral trauma, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said. Nicholas Campbell is not the girl’s biological father despite having the same last name, Baker previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Campbell has been in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond since December.
Ciara Campbell's mother, 25-year-old Alyssa Kincaid, was also jailed in December in connection with the death. She allegedly "allowed" the abuse.
Kincaid remains in the Cherokee jail on charges of second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, possession of methamphetamine and violation of probation.
