A Lumpkin County deputy fired shots at a woman attempting to flee a burglary arrest Friday night after she ran over his foot, authorities said.

The deputy responded to a call at a home along Pecks Mill Creek Road near Ga. 52 in Dahlonega about 7:20 p.m. He found a woman burglarizing the residence, sheriff’s office spokesman Alan Roach told AJC.com.

The woman, identified by the GBI as 33-year-old Valerie Michelle Barron of Cleveland, Ga., resisted arrest and tried to drive off, the GBI said Saturday.

Barron allegedly struck the deputy with her vehicle while fleeing, prompting him to shoot at the car. Barron wasn’t hit by any of the shots and managed to get away, the GBI said.

She was arrested about 11 p.m. at her White County home by deputies from the Lumpkin and White sheriff’s offices, the GBI said.

Roach said the deputy appears to have suffered only minor injuries to his foot.

Barron faces seven charges, including possession of tools for the commission of a crime, aggravated assault, obstruction and criminal trespass. As of Monday afternoon, she remained in the Lumpkin County Jail on a $20,200 bond, jail records show.

The incident marks the 22nd officer-involved shooting the GBI has investigated this year. The last three in Georgia took place within 18 hours of each other, AJC.com previously reported.
