A good Samaritan spotted two young children wandering on a busy Cobb County road Thursday, and police arrested their mother after finding out the kids were left home alone.
It also wasn’t the woman’s only run-in with police that day.
Tamika Hammoc, 40, of Smyrna, faces four charges after both incidents, Cobb jail records show. She’s accused of leaving her 1-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter at her home near Cobb Parkway, according to arrest warrants.

Lamena McClure told Channel 2 Action News she spotted the children, one of whom was wearing only a diaper and T-shirt, walking on Cobb Parkway as she pulled out of an apartment complex.
“It just scared me,” McClure said. “They were in the middle of the road. I jumped out of the car.”

The 3-year-old told her where they lived, and when McClure dropped them off, no one was home, according to the warrants. Smyrna police were called to the home.
When Hammoc got back to the home, she “refused to answer” why the kids were left alone for nearly two hours, the warrants said.

However, another warrant alleges that she was pulled over while her kids were left alone. She allegedly lied to officers about her vehicle, obscured the license plate and provided a false name and date of birth.
She faces two counts of reckless conduct in addition to four misdemeanors for the traffic stop, including obstruction, jail records show.
