Henry County police were working Friday to determine whether an overnight shooting at an apartment complex near Stockbridge that left two teens wounded was a case of self-defense.

Officers responding to simultaneous reports of a person shot and a robbery at the Ashley Woods complex around 10:30 p.m. Thursday found two males in their late teens who had been shot, one in the chest and the other in the leg, Henry County police Capt. Joey Smith said.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the subject who claimed that he was robbed is the shooter,” Smith said.

He said the alleged gunman, a man in his 20s, told detectives “that he was to meet someone in the complex parking lot at his vehicle when he was approached by two males.”

The man told police the two teens pulled weapons and attempted to rob him.

“The shooter began firing and struck the two armed suspects,” Smith said.

The two teens were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their names and conditions were not immediately available.
