A DUI suspect spotted driving 125 mph down I-85 led police on a high-speed chase Saturday morning before crashing into a state trooper’s patrol car, authorities said.
The chase began in Atlanta when police spotted a black Mercedes-Benz driving over 120 mph on the interstate, the Georgia State Patrol told Channel 2 Action News.
Two state troopers attempted to stop the vehicle on I-85, but the driver refused to pull over, authorities said.
A chase ensued and the driver of the Mercedes led police up Ga. 400 to the Lenox Road exit, according to Channel 2.
The suspect eventually got back onto I-85 before exiting at the North Druid Hills exit and crashing into a trooper’s car near the Brookhaven McDonald’s, according to police.
“They hit one trooper in the side, and then after that they were able get him boxed in and get him stopped,” GSP spokesman Stacey Collins told reporters at the scene.
The suspect, who was not identified, suffered minor cuts to his hand in the crash, police said. Nobody else was injured.
Authorities said alcohol was likely a factor in the chase and wreck, but police have not said what charges the driver faces.
