A pedestrian on a Cherokee County sidewalk was struck and killed Wednesday after a driver swerved attempting to miss another pedestrian in the road, officials said.

Aaron Miller, 20, of Woodstock, was traveling on Trickum Road north of Ga. 92 when he swerved to miss someone who was not utilizing a crosswalk, Cherokee County sheriff’s Sgt. Marianne Kelley said.

Miller struck Diana Scott, 85, of Woodstock, on the sidewalk, authorities said. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The pedestrian Miller was avoiding was a relative of Scott’s, Kelley said.

No charges have been filed.
