A Gwinnett County man accused of killing his mother was apprehended Wednesday evening, nearly 36 hours after fleeing in his parents’ car.

Mark Raymond Wilson was taken into custody without incident, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.

An officer found the suspect’s vehicle about 6:40 p.m. at the QuikTrip at Grayson Highway and Simonton Road, Smith said. The gas station is about two miles from the family home where Wilson’s 72-year-old mother, Phillis Wilson, was found dead.

Wilson stabbed his mother 10 times in the neck, face and chest Tuesday morning, according to the warrant issued for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault and felony murder.

The 42-year-old suspect, who police said is schizophrenic, had been left alone with his partially paralyzed mother between 8 and 9:19 a.m., when the attack allegedly occurred.

His father and caretaker discovered Phyllis Wilson’s body inside the family’s home at 1139 Simonton Glen Way in unincorporated Lawrenceville and called police. Wilson and one of the family’s cars, a 2006 Toyota Camry, were missing, and police obtained a warrant for the son’s arrest.
