A Cobb County man has been arrested and charged with the shooting death of his wife Sunday at a home near Marietta.

Officers responding to a 5:24 p.m. report of shots fired at a home in the 2000 block of Olive Springs Road found 53-year-old Lydia King lying in the yard of a nearby house, dead from apparent gunshot wounds, Cobb police spokesman Michael Bowman said in an e-mail.

“As a result of their investigation, detectives have charged 55-year-old Joe King of Marietta with felony murder and aggravated assault,” Bowman said.

He said Joe King was being held without bond Monday in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Court records show that the couple had a history of domestic violence.

Lydia King was arrested in 2010 after allegedly trying to kill her husband.

According to the arrest warrant in that case, Joe King was sitting on a couch when Lydia King “stabbed him in the back with a dagger-type device.”

Lydia King was charged with felony aggravated assault with intent to murder following that incident, which took place on Valentine’s Day in 2010.
