A Clayton County police officer was fired Thursday for inappropriate conduct while on duty, including pornographic acts, the department said.

Officer Joshua Nicholson had been placed on administrative assignment during an internal investigation into a complaint. Chief Michael Register told Channel 2 Action News he fired Nicholson after the investigation was completed.

“This was at the level that he needed to be terminated,” Register said. “He took full responsibility.”

The police department did not provide specifics on Nicholson’s actions. But Channel 2 reported that Nicholson had recorded himself performing a sex act in his patrol car and sent it to women.

“I’m not going to tolerate an officer violating that public trust,” Register said.

Nicholson declined to speak about his firing outside the police station Thursday.
